i agree with you the sixties were amazing and im a huge fan of the Beatles... i love across the universe and many of my friends thought it was bad but it was because they cant stand musicals or they didnt understand a lot of it. it's a really artistic and symbolic movie that you have to be open minded to really enjoy and if you love the sixties you should really see it because it includes a lot of different aspects of the sixties.

Horrible? Well as a total and absolute Beatles lover, I will say I loved it. I thought the way the used the Beatles music to depict the 60's was fantastic. I mean using "She's so Heavy" to depict carrying the weight of freedom while fighting in Vietnam? Pretty amazing. Not to mention that Eddie Izard was great. While it may not have been directly what the Beatles were thinking when they wrote the songs, they provide a wonderful social commentary. Maybe the people who didn't like it, should try it again, with a little more of an open mind.

it's a bizarre and beautiful movie musical, almost a music video at times, that uses thirty- three of The Beatles' songs. I kinda liked it but it was kinda dumb at times.

So, what would you do if you didn't have the money pressure on you?
I used to think a lot like you in that matter, but now I came to thinking that one needs to distinguish what one wants from what one needs. I mean, if what you love came without any effort or sacrifice on your behalf, how would you know how to appreciate it;)

Guess, you should be content with yourself. Usually it's easier for people to pass the message throught words than other non-verbal methods. As to the movie-it's not as under-rated as you say. Actually, it has quite a prestige. You should read the book:)

bad days suddenly turned good

[ view all ]My Unauthorized Biography

Jed's head is in the clouds. He's most memorable as the guy who pined after Debra, his best friend's sex pet. Jed was also the object of Dylan's affections in what you might call a "love" triangle, although the more we watched, the more we realized that love had nothing to do with it. The whole problem illustrates how loosely the word "love" is used. If Jed were really in love with Debra, would he have fooled around with Lisa? If Debra really loved Danny, would she have flirted with Jed, knowing how he felt? And if Dylan really loved Jed, would she have started dating Eric? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding, "No!"

Jed liked Lisa because she was out of his reach. She was a passing amusement while he tried to twist the arm of Debra, the girl he "loved," into "loving" him back. Jed's pursuit of Lisa was under the guise of filming her for his art project. But basically he took advantage of her insecurity and low self-esteem. She's a professional actress. But did he pay her for her work? No, he got her to give it up to him and for the camera, for free.

None of what these characters do makes any sense from the standpoint of love. Nor is it logical from the perspective of loving, respectful friendship. Ex's are off-limits to friends. But can they even be considered friends? Friendship is an honor and this show lacks a depiction of strong, genuine friendships, which do exist in real life. It also depicts people at the quarter-life mark as being self-centered and immature. Really, the only thing that makes them friends is their mutual adherence to distraction, selfishness, and free-wheeling behavior. They act with complete disregard for repercussions. It's like, "I promise I won't pull the curtain on your hollow life if you don't pull the curtain on mine." Fortunately, things that lack substance eventually fade.

The whole pursuit of filmmaking for Jed, and for Danny, was really just a colossal excuse to waste their time and put off taking responsibility for their lives. And their film sucked. Work blows too, but realizing that work is a necessary evil is a hurdle of the quarter-life crisis.

The problem with Jed was that he just wasn't a good artist. He and everyone else mistook his delusion for passion. In the end, Jed had a personal crisis, which was actually really good for him. When you're a dreamer, these things wake you up. So hopefully he'll be stronger when he comes back.
