The Great Disease of War and Greed

Nov 18, 2008

Since the beginning of time we have waged war. We have burned cities to the ground. We have slaughter thousands: Men, Women, Children.
It's in our blood and our minds...this disease that conquers our basic judgment. It makes us blind to see what we have become, and what we are doing. It is this disease that cause us to sit back and decide who deserves to be saved and who deserves to die. Why do we continue to make conflict KNOWING that in the end it will only mean death and poverty. KNOWING that truly there is no winner. Nobody wins in war. Nobody only gains from bloody confrontation. So yea maybe we do gain some more land, or maybe we stop a dictator. But for a mother of a soldier who dies on the battlefield solely because of our ignorance and greed, what have we truly won? Has their ever been a war across all time that couldn't have been resolved peacefully? Has their ever been a war that was absolutely necessary? Many argue yes...that without us Hitler would have conquered Europe. Maybe that's true. Maybe in that time War was acceptable. Maybe then War was what was needed in order to better the world.

But is that the same today?

Today is it needed to go kick the shit out of another county for personal gain? Just because I'm only 17 doesn't mean I don't see what's happening around me! I see the greed, the greed for oil, the greed to consume what we desire. I see it and I am ashamed! Ashamed to know that I am part of a bigger system that can't put aside it's differences! A system that only cares about itself! It pains me to know that I can't trust the people that lead my country! And because of this trust I feel as if I can't trust my country at all....like I can't trust the world at all....

It makes sad.
You see I've learned about the world. I've read the books. I've proposed theories, ideas, values, things that could help exterminate this arrogance, this Human Disease of War. These things would eliminate the inequality the world suffers from. It would give hope to those who are on the brink of survival. And it would give passions to those who live in towers of ivory. Because at the end of the day I want to rest my head knowing that I did everything I possibly could to unite this world and make it a place of peace and prosperity. I want to die in a world where a African-American and a Japanese Civilian can stand next to each other in Israel and declare their brotherhood in pride without having to worry about the intolerance of the rest of the world. I want to know that I did what was best for my children and my children's children.

Because This World,
This World is Our World...It's all we have. We've got one chance, We've got one shot. And if we screw it up. Everything that we've worked for. Everything that we've fought for. Everything that we've died and killed for. Everything that we ever did to better the Human Race will be in vein.
