The Bigger Picture


Some things happen when you’re young and naïve,
those you can’t take back,
no matter how faithfully you believe.
Some things happen and they change you forever,
Learning to heal afterwards is the real endeavor.

So you learn not to cry over spilt milk,
and you learn not to dwell on torn silk.
You learn to focus on the bigger picture,
cause if you can’t life will swallow you whole,
it will eat you!

You wake up one morning and you’re twenty-two.
You’ve been cheated, burned and hurt till you turned blue…
You’ve survived storms and quakes that tore down majestic trees,
only to be enslaved by the memory of a distant Halloween...
You tell yourself you’ve got to make it through,
but halfway through the journey it hits you,
it was rape that broke you.
Storms and quakes and teenage flakes were hard enough to overcome,
but when it’s rape you need to beat,
that’s a whole different ballgame, often ending in your defeat.

You learn to focus on the bigger picture,

it will eat you!

Halloweens will come and they will go,
and each year you’ll have to fight the same battle
to keep from falling back into that old stupor.
Some years you’ll be strong and others you’ll feel weak,
but when it’s rape you need to beat,
You’ve got to fight with all you’ve got
and let everything else take a backseat.
