It’s a funny feeling when
you realize that the art
form you are involved
with is, on a large
scale, unheard of and
constantly looked over.
Some of the finest gems
you will ever find are
never on the surface. No
no my friends, you must
go into caves, deep below
the surface, UNDERGROUND.
Case in point, The
Grouch and Eligh. I have
much respect for the rest
of the Living Legends as
well, they have been
blessing my ears for the
better part of a decade,
but in this man’s opinion
these two emcees
consistently take it to
the next level.
The first times I heard
these two masters of
their domain I was
skateboarding out with my
friends. I sat down at
the edge of the spot on a
curb in the shade as my
friend clunked a tape
around before settling it
in his Walkman. “Dude,
you have to hear this
song.” It was a sample of
a harp (or close to it,
pretty sure it’s a harp)
with a smooth,
concentrated voice giving
an immediate addictive
hook.
