Toys for Tots

“Toys for Tots” is a great thing. Every year I try to purchase toys and take them to a donation center. I moved this past year so I attempted to find a donation center closer to home. I was driving down Pico and saw a familiar sign “Toys for Tots Donation Center” . . . fantastic! So I followed a series of signs down a long wall overgrown wall with hedges and made a right on 14th Street and then another right, right into the middle of a graveyard. And there was the bin, smack dab in the middle of rows upon rows of headstones. I’m not normally a superstitious person but I couldn’t handle the stigma that would go along with these toys from the graveyard going to children. I almost put the whole bin in my car but decided not to chance it. How long had they been there? Maybe they were already haunted. Whatever the case, I would not be depositing toys in a graveyard that day.
I got back in my car and my first thought was to drive home and write a short script about toys for tots gone awry, needy children fighting off haunted toys. But I still had a mission and kept driving until I found another site. That was my first truly bizarre experience of December 2007.
This morning I saw JUNO and I thought it was a very smart and charming film and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
