i went back to school this year as well, after dropping out of a 4 year college after 2 years out of high school. college then was not for me, but now i've got a 4.0 and am starting to think i might actually make something more of my life. keep up the work

It's a tough one - I've been there myself. There's just no guarantee, and so many reasons not to persevere. I think that the best thing you can be doing is to keep producing new work (in your case, recordings and performances, I suppose). Even if you think it's crap, complete it. Completion is crucial. When it's complete, share it. Then move on. Here is the thing - it may not get you where you want to go. But if you keep completing things, and sharing them, then you'll get somewhere worth getting to. It might be exactly what you had envisioned; it might be a different career you hadn't envisioned at all. People say that you can have anything you want if you just work hard enough; I don't believe it. But having a commitment and putting in the work get you somewhere good.

maybe it's not that you are terrible. Maybe it's that you are a perfectionist and you can't stand to do something if it's not mindblowing.

Don't be afraid to screw up. That's how you get better. All artists produce terrible awful garbage, a lot of it, but the good stuff comes when you keep trying. After 100 or so takes you're bound to end up with something decent.

No...you HAVE to record yourself singing it, if for nothing else, for me! That is one of my fave songs, and it's beautiful on its own...you can bring your own beauy to it.Side note: I saw Ana Gasteyer do The Wizard and I. Ana Gasteyer. Of SNL fame.
