Sum of our parts

Im going to get all existential now. I have this conversation with my friend every once in a while- if I had been "better off" when I was younger, would I be who I am now? I guess thats an obvious question- but if I had had a normal, mainly positive adolescence, I dont think I would be as empathetic or compassionate as I am. Or would I?m Were those the results of experience, or just my personality? I know there are institutes and studies set up for this sort of thing, but its something I think about every once in a while.

Was it supposed to be this way? Or was there another way I was supposed to be?

Sum of our parts

Aren't our personalities the results of our experiences? BTW - ever been to Westfield, NY?

Hardest question EVER.

I'd like to believe that there is some "larger force," guiding us through life, but I honestly don't know. This is a really stupid reference, but have you ever seen Bruce Almighty? Well, when Morgan Freeman is handing over his control as "GOD" to Jim Carrey, he says that the one thing he has to remember is that even though he has all the powers of God, he can't mess with free will. Though this is just part of Hollywood's glamorization of providence, it seems to demonstrate my views on this subject: God or whoever is up there is watching, but wants us to find our own way in this world. Nothing is "supposed to be." We make it what we want it to be.
