Never seen the show but do like the scenario you extracted for review on "best friends".Have to agree with the old man,in our private(unselfrecognized?)loneliness we grasp for meaning and substantiation,one method being catagorical superlatives.Say,think something over and over and maybe in time you may believe you believe it,that is until something like being trapped on a subway with each other that causes a larger reality to the surface.
