I enjoy this because your subjects have created the atmosphere, and I can feel the temperature of the day.

i love the fact that you caught this at the right moment. her expression, the not-quite-a-catch-yet, and the defender all in the same shot. i love to take action shots at hockey games, but it's so difficult. great job!

Hey thanks for the comments. I looked throught your work a few times and I really like how you are able to portray people in real lif situations, with real emotions. I haven't yet learned to capture people without the generic poses which completely lack emotion. so, yeah, props.

I prefer shots of object illusion to be interpreted by the viewer than shots of people.

Regarding your comment about planned and spontaneous work that approach has always been lurking in the back of my mind.Since over 4 decades of sketch books have passed under my hand you can be sure I would know repetition pretty quickly. And some how by increments attempting to avoid this has pretty well demanded that new approaches be taken which in turn has helped fuel a broader understanding of the use of medium. This notion for me at least applies to all aspects of the work in progress. The subject, material to be used ( I generally use a rough paper {d'Arches water colour 250-400lb} with lots of 'tooth')and among other things concentration. The style seems to take of itself since all the critical needs are covered I can go to town and have a ball finishing the job.

HI Tara ! Thank you so much for the awesome compliments :-D I was looking through your photography, and it's some pretty deep stuff. I think the black and white def makes stuff look more dramatic, well maybe not dramatic...maybe that's a bad choice of word...but just more meaningful. You capture life in it's purest form, from birth , to sickness, it's just really REAL. Look forward to more :-D

Photography

Mar 05, 2008

Photography has matured leaps and bounds since its conception. It's no longer just a hobby for the rich or considered a cop out for those not willing to paint. Just imagine what it must have been like when the first portable mass produced camera came out. Picture taking was made accessible. People could record anything they wanted to.
With all of this history in mind, I'm wondering more and more what photography means to me. Our society has become inundated with images from the internet, television and billboards, I'm hardpressed to say that a single photograph can make a difference in today's world. The more I think about it, I realize that photography no longer has the effect it once had. There are easier ways to access culture. This same concept applies to the newspaper and books. Why read when the t.v. is blaring in the den? At this moment, the telvision is supplying my background noise.
So, photography may not have the ability to change the world. This doesn't mean photographs have lost their ability to inspire. I know I learned to appreciate all forms of beauty in all forms of cultures the more photographs I looked at and studied. You don't have to use photography to change the world, but you can use it to change your mindset. You can use it to influence what you produce in your community. Let photography give the world inside your head and the world around you a voice. Let photography bring those two worlds together.
I am learning what I want to say and what I hope to gain through my pictures. I am still a work in progress. I hope that my voice will be able to extend beyond my world and into the minds of others. If I can give anything back, I will treasure that more than any other success.

I am a quiet person that lives for the loud. I don't mind busy sidewalks or loud music. I need to be alone at times, to do nothing or to enjoy a great cup of coffee. I wish horror movies were the art forms they once were. I wish movies were the art forms they once were. I wish change was always for the better.
