Jack’s giant’s
tooth turned
black so a chunk
of wood was stuck
in his gum.

II.
Sal had a splinter
collection
splinters picked
out of bloody thumbs.

III.
You are a
blockhead. A
gnarly, fraying
chunk of wood.

IV.
He thought he was
a woodchuck. They
found him by the path,
a chunk of wood lodged
between his teeth.

V.
Because she thought
pet rocks were cliché
she kept a chunk of
wood in a cage.

VI.
A chunk of wood
sat patiently in the
grass, waiting to trip
a passing mountie-man.

VII.
The chunk of wood
was meant to be
carved, but the
whittler-man lost
his hands.
