Beginning of Prologue to "X"Feb 24, 2008 - 01:38 AM PST This is the beginning of the prologue (that sounds so redundant) of a book, "X", I started to write but forgot about, but recently found again. It's about a futuristic society which exists completely inside a virtual world, inside a computer. The story focuses on the first generation to be born inside of "X", it's told from the point-of-view of a 17 year old teenager, Alec, who finds out that the world he lives in, isn't real, but rather a computer program, to put it simple terms. He strives to escape X, to visit Earth, but he finds out that it's not as simple he thought it would be. Right now, this is as far as I've got and it's a little rough, and the plot is pending, as the name, the characters and so far and so forth. X by Michael Hall Prologue What if you woke up one morning to find your world had changed completely and what you once thought you knew no longer existed? Let me start from the very beginning. March 18th 2029, a company called “VisTech, Incorporated,” finished the first alpha build of a virtual world known as “InVISable.” The morning of the release, VisTech's C.E.O. Mark Blanchard received a letter from the federal government, ordering them to halt all research and pull the alpha build as well as any material relating to InVISable immediately, and turn over it to the U.S. Government. Under government order Blanchard did as he was told and later that day everything pertaining to InVISable was gone from the Internet and in the hands of government officials. For a long time the public was completely unaware of this action, but a couple of years later the information leaked to the general public. Questions were going unanswered for several years more, until December 18th 2039, when the government released the following statement: “In March of 2029, we [the government] ceased programs and documents correlating with research and development a virtual world created by VisTech, Incorporated. The materials that were obtained were used to develop a new virtual world, called “X.” This virtual world, which is meant to replace the current resource depleted world, will create an environment completely computer based. Starting today, migration to X will be voluntary and open to all citizens of the United States. As time goes on the government here in the United States, will fade away and all citizens left will be forced to migrate. To find more about X, visit CrossIntoX.gov.” |
