One day you called me and said you were scared.
Something had happened, but you were ashamed.
You couldn't confess, even though you knew I cared.
"Something too terrible..." you disclaimed.

"I'm taking a flight back home tomorrow."
You had been made to feel shameful and worthless.
Even my affirmations you couldn't borrow.
What you had done wrong, I couldn't venture a guess.

When you arrived home, you were so broken.
Still too ashamed, I knew not what was wrong.
The hurt you felt still remains unspoken.
But you said my arms were somewhere you could belong.

I tried all I could to help you mend the pieces.
You told me that it was no longer my place.
My love, adoration, and caring ceases
to be something to help you in the face of disgrace.

It's been a year since you turned away from my guidance.
For the most part people grow, and grow apart.
But my heart grew closer to you as your spirit grew intense.
You should know that's rare and shouldn't depart.

How could you let something special pass you by?
Most people find that something to be revered.
As it happened, I couldn't help but cry.
