Jealousy

May 15, 2008 - 18:55 PM PST

Who can ever say that jealousy is trivial? Jealousy, can burn and scorch even the strongest ties. Ruin the greatest of friendships. Diminish the most legendary of loves. Once any sort of relationship has been tainted, bruised, by the slightest hint of envy, then all hope of a "perfect" relationship is gone. Jealousy, stirs up, plants, fertilizes the seeds of so many other destructive emotions. Resentment, anger, sadness, worthlessness, even hate. Dirty little feelings that burrow in deep beneath the skin of a relationship. Rotting, spreading like a disease until every insignificant detail burns and reminds of anger or hurt. It eats you from the inside out, bubbling like acid unnoticeable physically at first and finally effecting your behavior and how you see everyone and how everyone sees you. I mean, Envy is one of the seven deadly sins, right?
en·vy Pronunciation[en-vee]
–noun
1. a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc.

Is it really such a massive part of human nature that we aren't able to just be happy for one another? Especially being a girl in high school, envy, greed, are everything. And others retaliate for their envy with malicious, conniving attacks against they other. So sly, so unexpected. We're so ashamed of jealousy we go out of our way to hide it, to pretend we're unphased by our own aching needs. So, why can't we ever just move on, get over it, and be happy.
