Bam
It happened
You pulled the trigger
First everything begins to tip in and out of focus
The colors begin to swirl
The lights are beginning to dim as the blood seeps from your head
You can see your little brother standing in the doorway
Sister by his side
She’s holding a train in one hand and a bottle in the other
She looks at you
Stares you in the eyes
Too young to understand what you are doing
“Hi,” she whispers as my brother stares off
Looking down upon you
Staring at your body
Staring at the blood soaking through the carpet
Soaking every last inch of the carpet
He doesn’t scream
He doesn’t call for help
He stands there and watches you helplessly
As your sister asks him what’s wrong
You have to blink away the tears
Blink away the blood now fogging your vision
It’s blinding you
Everything is in a haze
You take one last look around
You see your parents in the picture frame
You’re holding your sister on your shoulders as your parents walk beside you
With your brother in the front leading the way
On our way to the ice cream shop
You remember biking there with your friends
Buying your ice cream
Having it splat upon the pavement when your friend tried to grab a lick
You see a card
The “#1 brother in the world” card that you got from your sister when she was in first grade
You got it when you snuck your sister a piece of chocolate from beneath the table
You see the photo booth pictures with your friends
There making faces as the camera flashes
Poking each other as the timer ticks down
But it’s all gone now
By now your brother is on the floor
Clinging to your shirt
Crying
Sobbing
Wishing
Just wishing that his tears will close the hole in your head
Your sister doesn’t know what your brother is doing
She kneels beside him and asks why he’s said
He says that big brothers going away
Going away for a long time
She then reaches over and gives you a hug
Squeezes your hand tightly with her little fingers
Asking for you to stay
But it’s too late
All too late
Maybe you made the wrong choice
Maybe they need you
Maybe, just maybe…
