Mars Rising-Part one

Ok so I have not been working on my other story much. But here is another that I have had in my head for a while. This is a very different type of story.

The Message

My story starts long before my birth. Ten years before my parents even met we lost contact with Earth. In school we were taught of the Crusade, a global holy war that began in a place known as the Bible Belt on the Northern American Continent. The Crusaders went all over the world forcing conversions to their view of the Christian Faith. In their wake great monuments were destroyed; The Dome of the Rock along with the Wailing Wall, The Mormon Tabernacle, Vatican City, Mecca and many more. They were all laid to waste. They spread their message of a second coming and the end of the world to follow. Any school or institution that taught anything different from their strict doctrine, such as evolution or geology that questioned their idea of age of the earth, was either forced to recant or closed. They torched abortion clinics and held trails for the doctors and staff, which always ended in them being hanged or stoned. But there were those that stood against them; people of different creeds and races. These men and women were labeled heretics by the Crusaders, even those who practiced Christianity with varied theologies. They fought back where ever they could while trying to save as many lives as they could from the Inquisition. Then there was the plague, no one is sure who released it, but it killed everyone. As prophesied the end did come for the world, but not in some final battle on the plains of Megiddo. Instead with the world’s inhabitants in hiding; fearing a death they could not see coming, and when it did they died alone and in pain. Within six months everyone was dead. Any ship that tried to escape to our colonies were turned away, for fear of bringing the death with them. We here on the forth rock from the sun, ironically named for the god of War, are all that is left of the human race. We live within our means, we work for a better future, our mission is to survive. I, Oran Tolem am a proud Martian, and the story I am about to tell you is the truth that has been hidden from all colonists for over thirty years…
