My First Official Blog (Text for now)

Feb 13, 2008 - 20:30 PM PST

So yeah, I was talking on the phone with my friend earlier tonight, and when I was talking to her, I don't know if this was just her way of making me shut up or what not, but she suggested that I write a blog, because apparently when I get worked up about something, no matter how simple it is, I can and usually will defend what I believe, down to a point where my arguements don't even make sense anymore. Don't know if you would technically consider that a weakness or a strength, but I guess it's apart of my personality, who knows.

So yeah, what I was talking to her about, was something rather off topic, but Windows Vista. I know that Quarterlife seems to love Apple and Mac, because it's all over the place, but personally I have always been a huge Windows fan. No true reason, hell the last time I was on a Mac was when I was young and both operating systems sucked, so I can't fairly judge one against the other, I just know that the difference between the two are large enough for me to feel more like a guest and less like the owner of a computer, if I used Mac.

Anyway, so what I was talking about was how badly it annoys me whenever people say that Vista sucks compared to XP. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Windows XP, infact I know for a fact that it's an amazing operating system, because I've used it since I was 12 and haven't had any problems with it what so ever. The way I see it though is, Windows Vista, if you have a good enough computer, truly is an upgrade. The user interface being fueled by the videocard is perhaps one of the biggest steps forward that anyone designing a visual based operating system, could've actually taken.

Infact, and this is not to put down Windows XP, but when I installed a completely fresh copy of Windows XP onto my computer, no less then 2 to 3 hours later, I got a Blue Screen of Death. What does this mean? This means that anyone could accidentally install an operating system incorrectly, no matter how skilled they are. I've been using Windows Vista for over a year now, on and off, specifically because I was waiting for either my old hardware to be supported, or to buy new hardware, which ever came first. Eventually about 6 months ago, I made the switch for good and I don't regret it at all.

Another thing that really urks me about most people around me who argue, is that 9x out of 10, their argument generally either has nothing to do with what we're talking about, or they have no clue about what they're talking about. Either way, their end of the argument generally ends with them insulting me with things like "You're such an idiot." and "You don't have any idea." and usually they never prove a single point. The debate about which version of Windows is better, is generally where you'll find this issue the biggest threat. I'm willing to make a strong bet that most of the people out there who say that Windows Vista sucks, are saying so only because they either know someone who had a bad experience about it, or listened to someone who sounded sophisticated and used really big complex sentences, and somewhere in the mix of what they were saying, the words "Vista Sucks" sort of bled out and showed itself. What does this mean? It means that in my opinion, less then half of all the people out there who say that Vista is worse then XP, generally have no damn clue what they're talking about, and are either being unnecessarily loyal to an OS they've had since 2001, stubborn, or complete idiots.

I grant you, there are many people who support a logical argument as to why they should stick with XP, things such as older hardware not working, or software that they need not properly working, and again, don't get me wrong, I support your opinion completely. Generally though, people with this kind of issue, never say one way or the other, if an operating system sucks or not, they merely admit to the fact that an upgrade in their case, is a step backwards. So when it comes to people like this, I truly do not have any problem with them, but it's the people who are willing to fight to their last breath, to defend something that they truly have no support to defend, that annoy the hell out of me.

*Ehem*

Well theres my rant, blog for the day. Comments or critique are always welcome, and feel free to give me your thoughts on the topic at hand. I will not take offense to anything anyone says, but consider that I reserve my right to defend myself or ideas in a mature manner, if I feel the need to do so.
