My Solar EclipseApr 07, 2008 - 20:12 PM PST This is a piece of slam poetry I wrote a couple of years ago. I'll try to make a recording of it, so you can hear the cadence of the piece. It's a lot better when you can hear it, like all slam poetry. I found myself up by Jupiter, Rolling, flying, turning, Learning that it is better to Take and give Love and live Because no sun can shine bright enough to overthrow your glow Finding stars that mirror the sparkle in your eyes Was like seeing light for the first time. Here I am Weightless, stateless, Ive been floating instead of falling Calling out to angels While knowing that their gift of wings Could never carry me like you do. Laying on the rings of Saturn Ive come to like pitch black Because finding your kiss is obvious When our lips were made to meet Measuring distance in time not feet. I spell out your name in stardust So that the universe can breathe it, See it, That spot on your neck where your head fits just right Maps out the perfect constellation to guide me back right Its illogical, impractical Im skeptical because how could I find someone like you, Someone whos imperfections are what perfects him Someone that shares this incredible connection With me. Flaming ball of gas and matches ignites the notion That you are beginning to look more like land than an ocean Stable and strong. If I could, I would tattoo I love you on your eardrum So that you would hear it every second of every day. Wrap your Haileys comet tail around me Hold on tight And never let me out of your sight. I no longer fear nightmares Im beginning to like them Because I know that when I wake up Youll be there to fight them. |
