Now I Remember...Dec 30, 2007 - 20:18 PM PST There are times when I get a bit discouraged with my major and where I am hoping my life will go. Sometimes I think, "God, is this really what I want to do? Why?". Film is just so hard to get into and it's such a make or break environment. I also wonder if I am creative or strong enough to stick with it. Sometimes I look around at the other film students at my school and they all seem so much more experienced and creative than me. It makes me wonder. Then I watch a movie like "Magnolia" (which I watched for the first time yesterday) and I remember why I want to produce films. I want to be in the movie business because it's an amazing way to show real emotion and expose many real situations. It helps to open people's minds to new ideas and emotions. Film also seems to have this amazing ability to change people's moods which I find fascinating. I proceeded to watch a documentary on the DVD about the making of "Magnolia". Watching Paul Thomas Anderson and his crew make the movie also reminded me why I want to work in film. It was amazing how they were discussing how they were going to make this picture. I wanted to be one of those people in that room. I just feel like I would be good at what they were doing. And I would enjoy it as well. It seems that it's hard work but also very rewarding in the end (much like film classes I've taken). I know too many people that don't seem really happy with their careers, and as much as I respect them for doing something they may not enjoy, I don't want to be like that. I want to be excited to go to work but also challenged all the time. It seems to me that producing a film would provide both of those goals for me. So to make a long rambling story short, I am so glad that I remembered why I want to make films. It is very easy to lose sight of one's true aspirations. But if I really think about it, I am glad that I can remember why I want to keep plugging away at this long term goal. That's it for now...thanks for reading! -Liz P.S. Anyone seen any good movies lately? I'd love to hear some suggestions/opinions. |
