Rose In a Vacant Lot

Rose in a Vacant Lot

A single rose in a vacant lot,
Empty is she?
For her beauty is wondrous
Yet she is alone.
And so she dreams

She dreams as all flowers dream.
Dreams of love finder her,
In her empty lot, this empty heart.
Soul-less. But
She has one friend,
The sun feeds her day to day
And keeps her warm company

She waits, for years
And every summer she blossoms
Hoping.
Will her dream come true?
And every summer it does not.
And the sun comforts her.

Twenty years move past
And still the lot is vacant.
She hates herself.
Why is she alone?
Will nothing ever come?
She has given up.
And the sun comforts her.

One day she sits in her lot
And looks towards the sky.
She sees the ravens
Flying about, doing absolutely nothing
But…they are together
And, oh, so happy.
Why can she not be happy?
She is sad
And the sun comforts her.

One night she sits in her lot
And looks towards the sky.
She sees the stars
So many of them in any which direction.
Each contributing to the shine of the next
Individually beautiful, none the same.
They live together in one cluster of night
She wonders
Are they as beautiful as love?

She speaks with the sun, biggest star of all
And realizes, yes, oh yes they are as beautiful
Beautiful and still alone
Exactly like her
They ARE love, maybe she could be
Maybe she could be love!
Oh, the joy to be love and not be stuck in its curse
To be your own curse

She is a star,
She is love,
One beautiful, shinning symbol of love
And love she will one day
And she knows it
Even through the veins in her petals
And the sun is happy for her.

This new love she has found,
She loves this love,
She will live with this love
Forever
And so she sits, again, alone in her lot,
Happy.
That one empty lot, containing nothing,
But a single rose
And a dream.

I am very impressed! I have never been much good at poetry, my forte is short story writing, but I can certainly appreciate the talent when I see it. And believe me little Missy, I see it in you. Very nice. I suggest an atempt to publish this.

I read something like this once, except it ended much differently.. I think it was just conceptually the same.. But yours is all around better, ends much differently, and has a lot stronger of a message.. Really beautiful =)
