The Grinch...Feb 21, 2008 - 14:37 PM PST February could easily be called the "love month." We spend on average $13 billion on Valentine's Day gifts. We buy 200 million roses, 40 million heart-shaped boxes of candy, $3 billion in jewelry, and exchange over 180 million romantic cards. Sounds like the love business is doing a good job. Interestingly enough, the statistics that really count tell a different story - the number of marriages is going down, and the number of divorces is going up. I haven't been able to understand this, nor Valentine's Day anyway. I don't understand why people feel as though they have to prove to their significant other why they "love" them so much in material possessions. I find it to be quite irrelevant. I believe that love should not have a price tag nor should it have to have a special holiday to commemorate how much you love someone. If you love someone, shouldn't that be enough? Maybe I just have such a hard time understanding it because I never found Valentine's Day to be an interesting holiday. I found it to be quite stupid to say the least. I guess you could call me the Valentine's Day Grinch. LMAO! |
