The Noise Part 1

That noise. She knew that she'd heard it before, but it was now buried deep within the recesses of her mind, and she could not recall the source. The familiarity pulled at her soul, but she dared not follow.

Was it human? Was it animal? Was it even natural? She could not tell. Finally, her curiosity would drive her to solve the mystery. She carefully stepped out of her yellow Bug. With her eyes fixed in the direction of the sound, she slowly closed the door. She began to move forward, one foot in front of the other. After walking a few yards, her foot stopped mid-air. The sound had stopped. She noticed the harsh sound of her breathing and fought to control it. Shortly it began again, and with one glance around her, Amanda moved once more. With every step she gained more confidence and moved more swiftly. However, the faster she moved forward, the faster the sound moved as well. It was as if the sound was either running away from her, or trying to force her to follow. Either way, she could not stop now.

Her feet carried her several miles before she stopped to rest. She gasped for air as she dropped to the ground. There was nothing around for five miles, yet she didn't feel entirely alone. A twig snapped, and with it, her breathing ceased. She sat, poised, ready to run at the slightest movement, but after five minutes nothing happened. Silence hung in the air. Even the sound that had compelled her to walk for so long was lost.

She stood and lifted her eyes to the dark sky. She stood in wonderment underneath the sparkling lights. Within minuted she was transfixed and completely unaware of the danger surrounding her. Her mind began to wonder and forgotten dreams clouded her sense of reality. Nearby, her predator waited.
