what kind of asian are you? obviously not the pretty kind.

there has been one recent interaction that just threw me off guard and has left me searching for some kind of reason. but all i had come up with was that it was just a nonsensical drive-by typing....i received a friend request, in which i accepted. there was a note attached. the brief conversation went as follows:

0: what kind of asian are you?

X: r funny - what kind of asian are you? - u are not serious right?

0: no you are not Asian? Are you embarrass of being Asian... Hell yeah I'm serious...

X: i am asian.i am not ashamed to be.the question just sounds funny, like what kind of human are you?i am filipina. why are you curious? (just curious =))

0: just curious.. i like fellow Asian. you're not pretty but being Asian is enough to be acquainted with me..

and with that i blocked him. i did not want to respond to him and encourage more mean attacks. his response came from such a hateful place. he is the one that initiated the exchange by requesting a friend invite. but then after getting my attention he proceeds to insult me? i should not have humored him in the first place. i mean what kind of a question is that anyway - what kind of asian are you? i admit he succeeded in mildly bruising my ego by saying i am not pretty.i did not post my videos to receive that kind of validation. they are about how vlogging reveals more than the intended message, about capturing more than a moment of mistakes and being able to relive them at whim. it is about relinquishing your image to public domain. anyway, i should be grateful my videos solicited such an unexpected response. he reminded me of the viewer's right to get whatever they choose to get out of your art. once you put it out there, you cannot hand-hold people to your personal intentions.

i like how you display the complete convo almost as an "art" piece. someone ask me recently if art exhibits racism,is it still art...? ART = expression.
