Where My Mind WandersApr 24, 2008 - 20:18 PM PST I was laying on the floor of the bedroom tonight, on my back. I was talking to Rach. Then Sketch, my cat, walked by. I grabbed him and started doing kitty bench presses with him. He wiggled a little around number eight and I put him down, and he continued walking. Then I had this thought: How weird would it be if I were just walking in the house, and all of a sudden I was lifted off the ground? Our cats go through this all the time, because we pick them up all the time. I wonder how they feel because usually, they are walking to do something to be interrupted by our whims to hold them and we pluck them from the earth. Maybe they were on their way to do something. Maybe they have an important appointment with a stuffed mouse. I don't know... I just know that it would be difficult for me to get used to if I were walking to get something to eat and someone picked me up... I would be startled. Then I would be nervous about it happening again. But they don't seem to mind much because they resume so effortlessly when we put them down. Maybe they anticipate it with excitement, because when we do it, we pet and scratch and love them (aside from the occasional kitty bench press). From a cat's perspective though, it seems like it would have to be a little weird. |
