Why Do So Many People Wish They Didn't Have A Dad?

Jan 07, 2008 - 00:51 AM PST

OK, usually I would put this in a blog, but considering the fact that NO ONE would read it, i figured I would write it hear, and hope that my voice is heard. If you actually read this, than you are a TRUE friend.

I've been on Myspace for quite a long time now, and every now and then I would see someone talking about how much they wish they didn't have a dad, or how much their dad sucks. I look at that and I just want to cry sometimes. You guys just don't know how good you have it. It may seem stupid to you, but it's not to me. Could you imagine not even knowing who your father is from birth because he died? Can you imagine, not even knowing what he looks like for 19 years of your life, and when you finally get a picture of him, he looks like he could be your child? No, you can't. You CAN NOT IMAGINE THAT!

I would give ANYTHING to have my father, but yet...you wish you didn't have one. Wow, Way to take a good thing for granted. Way to spit in someone's face. I raised by ALL women! Not one man to teach me any of the things guys do. That's why i'm so different then most men. I don't know a damn thing about cars, nor sports, but I could tell you in a heartbeat how to sew a button on your shirt. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Go ahead and say it. But that's not the point. Basically what I'm trying to say here is...Even though your father may not be the best or maybe he does not live up to your expectations, at least you have one, and be fortunate for at least that. Don't take those things for granted.

Someday, the people who wish they didn't have a dad will feel ashamed when if they ever lose their dad. My dad is there for me, but sometimes he's not. It's like my brothers matter more. Or sometimes if one of my siblings cause havoc, sure more attention goes to them, but it's like he gets more scared of losing them and loves them more, instead of equally. My dad also smokes and I fear one day losing him to something that smoking could trigger. I could be extremely mad at him or just sad because tomorrow isn't promised. You're so right, you should think before you act because you don't know what they have until it's gone. I know this blog was from two months ago, but I was just looking and I had two cents.

I can sympathize to a degree.. I lost my dad to Alzheimer's years ago, and it's so frustrating that people just can't comprehend what it means to have parents that are THERE. how special that is. but people are just silly and unaware and never really think about the things they write, so don't get too sad about it. it's their misfortune.
