Why do we help those that don't deserve it?

Well, QL...Today was a very interesting day. I felt like I honestly went back to slavery. I had to go and help my handicapped grandfather, because he's actually pretty fat and stuff and can't do for himself. Well, that SOUNDS like I'm doing a good thing, but am I really? Let's see here, why do I help someone that has treated my family like crap? Why do I help someone that hasn't helped any of his children, hasn't been there for anyone, and doesn't care about anyone but himself. He thinks that everyone should just cater to him. And yet, here I am helping him when no one else will. Why? Why do I even lift a finger, when he treats me just like he treats everyone else. I want to give him the benefit of a doubt, but sometimes I think I'm wasting my time. Ever since he won the lottery he's been an honory old man who thinks everyone is out to get him. I guess it's true what people say - "Money is the root of all evil".

What an interesting story. Maybe you could continue to do a "chronicles of a day in the life'...I look forward to hearing MORE about this person. I've read and seen the strangest stories of lottery winners...it can be tragic

Family is family :-/ unfortunately for some strange reason even in my asian blood it works the same way. No matter how opposed you are to it, no matter how much you detest it, there's some kind of unspoken loyalty that we give to those whom are family to us which I have still yet to understand.. whenever they need us, we're there. Whenever they want something, we're there, whenever they're on their death bed, we're there... I'm not quite sure... there's some level of unconditionality that's just especially for family.. we do it because we can.. My father is like that... asks me to do things he can very easily do for himself.. no matter how much I grit my teeth, moan or groan, no matter how busy I am, I'll still do it.. don't really know why I do, but I ... just do. :-/ Just like you. You're really not quite sure why you perform such acts of kindness / generosity for someone of such a nature.. We just do it..
