You have to draw the line somewhere...

Jun 26, 2008 - 10:05 AM PST

I like to think that I'm a guy who puts up with a lot. In fact, I tend to look at some of the shittiest situations as, "Man, this is so lame it'll make a great story." And that's kinda how it's been at the place that I'm subletting for the summer. So here it is.

I live with four girls in a 3 bedroom 3 bath townhouse. I share a room with one girl. I had never met any of them when I moved in. Three of the girls are awesome and REALLY easy to live with. The fourth on the other hand... Well... I'll let you decide. Oh, and she's the one that I share a room with.

Up until recently in my temporary home, I was able to deal with the fact that:
-my roommate snores really loud
-she has late night romps in the living room with what sounds like more than one guy. A frame?
-she cooks and doesn't do her dishes
-she leaves perishable food in the trash and hasn't once taken out the trash
-she has some really sketch friends (recently one was thrown in jail for assault with a deadly weapon)
-my kitchen has a roach problem
-our dishwasher doesn't work
-I have to plunge my toilet every other time I use it

But I've started to draw the line when...
-The apartment randomly is going through construction so they can replace the tile. The townhouse has to use one toilet and shower until they're done. My toilet is currently IN my shower so I assume I am expected to have to clean that.
-My roommate came home one day with a dog without consulting anyone else
-The dog is really noisy and attention hungry
-The dog has ruined carpet all over the apartment because it pees and poops everywhere
-My roommate isn't around enough to take care of it
-My roommate has been good about replacing anything the dog breaks, but the total cost of everything that dog has broken is probably approaching the $100 mark.
-Recently my roommate has been sticking it in a tiny kennel and leaves it there all day
-The dog yelps and barks literally non-stop all day
-Recently the dog knocked over a glass of juice that my roommate never finished and left on the desk that we share. It spilled around my computer. I went out of town for a weekend and when I came back it wasn't cleaned and now I have an ant problem.
-My room and our entryway smell of dog urine.

I have told my roommate as well as the person I am subleasing from that I am looking into other options. This sucks.

Wow, what a crappy roommate situation. On the positive side, keep writing this stuff down for when you produce your own show.

How about taking the dog to the SPCA the next time it's left in the kennel all day. She's clearly neglecting the animal and is unable to take care of it and it seems like no one else around the house has the time to take care of the animal either. If she gets mad about it, well it seems like it would be a small inconvenience compared to all of the trouble she's causing for you and your other housemates. Would any of the other girls consider letting you move into their room if it's only temporary?

Damn, we have the same problem... just flipped. I am living with 4 guys that are just like your 4 girls, but they may be a little more gross.

thanks for the add.. Your roommate story is very interesting. You are alot more civil then I. I hope you find a better situation for you and people who respect you and your space(like you do to them). Don't except anything less.
I know all to well about roommates. I just got told by my roommate he's moving out. But the funny thing was I already knew... someone else told me. A mutual friend tells me my roommate is thinking about moving w/ his g-friend. I'm like... NICE!!!! Do you think he can tell me???
