YouApr 09, 2008 - 09:41 AM PST I'm doing some research for an upcoming article on SAG actors in the Central Texas market. I'd love to hear privately from any Texas or other regional actors who are SAG eligible but who haven't joined SAG. Here are a few questions to consider: What does being SAG eligible mean to you? Is there any practical benefit to advertising oneself as SAG 'Eligible'? Are you planning to join SAG? If you are planning on joining SAG, do you plan to stay in your regional market after joining? Or is joining SAG your last act before leaving for L.A. or another market that is not right to work? If you're not planning on joining SAG, even though you are eligible, why have you decided not to join? If you're SAG eligible, do you feel any ethical obligation to join the guild that has won wage and working condition minimums that directly benefit you? If you are SAG eligible, but don't intend to join, do you feel you are taking advantage of the actors who have joined SAG? These are a few of the questions I'd like to explore and I'd like to have some 'real world' experiences to work with. Names will be withheld so you can feel free to be brutally honest. I understand that the decision to join or not to join is not an easy one in this market. What are your thoughts about the positives and negatives of joining SAG in a regional market in a right-to-work state? You can leave a comment below. All comments are monitored before they are published. Or you can send me an email to: txactor at gmail dot com. Thanks for participating. Tommy |
