Dream Log #00007:

April 5, 2008

I live in a giant rich person's house. I'm getting ready for Halloween. For some reason, all of my friends and I are all dressing as Witches. I decide to go as a mysterious sorceress type witch. I compile my costume from things I just happen to have: a sequence lined hooded purple cloak and a velvet green hooded cloak layered on top of that (as if one isn't enough! I guess, with me, the more extravagant and tacky the better.) When I was finally ready, I find out eventually, while I was changing, my friends had ditched me!

My friends are trick-or-treating without me and I'm with my husband backing into the drive way. My husband has dark brown to black hair and slim. Because I had just seen National Treasure: Book of Secrets the day before, my husband was played by (No Not Nicholas Cage!) ...Ty Burrell??? (Dawn of the Dead, The Darwin Awards, The (new) Incredible Hulk movie) LOL, of all people in that movie! I had to imdb.com him to know where else I've seen him.

He's talking to me about something that sounds like "Blah, blah, blah" because he tends to play these squirrelly-type, chatterbox, comic-relief characters in movies (he reminds me of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead movies but not as cute.) He signals to my trick-or-treating flaky friends to open the gate for us so we can go in our drive-way, like we were important or something.

I started to notice a change in my "friends'" appearance and behavior. They looked a little zoned-out, bruised, and bloody. I go inside my house to hide and one of my girlfriends, a strawberry blond, skinny model-type has turned into a zombie! She's trying her absolute hardest to eat me!

I climbed atop my mile-high dresser drawers to evade her freakishly long, flailing, flesh hungry grasps. My three pieces of furniture are all too tall for normal conventions; so, they're falling apart and swaying to and fro (National Treasure reference I think. See it and you'll understand what I mean.) I swing from the dilapidated, three-paneled ceiling fan to get from one dresser to another in order to keep each from toppling down like Jenga tiles.

I started throwing anything I could that's super heavy down at her in order to kill her. I throw a TV, a VCR, and any weighty appliance. I was like a damsel in distress atop three rickety towers whose trying to survive since no one was there to save me. Everyone just happen to mysteriously disappear, even my husband! (I wake up in a cold sweat, on my belly, and with my arms constricted beneath my chest. I turn them over to stretch them out and breath.)

Analysis: I surround myself with violent images: be it adventurous, thrillers like National Treasure, zombie movies like the Undead posters on my walls, CSI: Miami where someone always has to die in order to have a case to solve, and the nightly news. Violent images are all I see now-a-days, and they're all I seem to dream about.

Physiological Vs. Psychological factors: I think that my PMS-related cramps, bad computer posture cramps, and my sleeping in an awful position on my lumpy ancient bed had a great deal to do with it. My nightmares can seem to be so real when my body is experiencing real physical discomfort. For example, in the dream, I was doing a lot with my arms: changing my clothes and throwing heavy objects. The pain I feel transfers to the actions in my dreams and creates night terrors or nightmares.

I have also had zombie dreams that were pretty intense. I am always a buffy-esque zombie hunter or something. I usually have a lot of fun in the dreams and am able to will myself back into them after I half wake up. I haven't yet figured out if these dreams are just from watching too many super hero and horror movies or something a little bigger. I have a lot of dreams about the farm my dad grew up on. I have been having those since I was very young. My most recent zombie dream took place there (essentially... there were differences of course) and I'm sure that has a deeper meaning, but it is definitely beyond me! Until then, I guess I will just enjoy when I get to be a super hero! Happy dreaming!
